VOICESCAPES is a professional music collective created in 2000 by two couples: Christina Jahn & Paul Grindlay, and Julie Harris & Jerald Fast.
Each singer brings a broad range of performing experience: from medieval ensembles to opera companies, from solo to choral work, spanning four continents.
The ensemble's mandate is to create distinctive and varied concerts, which include VoiceScapes members in collaboration with other great Canadian musicians.
VoiceScapes has a flexible structure allowing the presentation of a diversity in programming that would not be possible by defining,
and thereby limiting, the size or scope of the ensemble. By collaborating with local and Canadian musicians and ensembles, VoiceScapes fulfills its vision to
connect to the larger musical community, and create opportunities to develop local talent.
VoiceScapes appears regularly on the Early Music Voices Concert Series in Calgary and collaborates often with Claude LaPalme and the Red Deer Symphony, and now the recently formed Rosa Barocca.
VoiceScapes has also appeared with Alberta Baroque Ensemble, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, has premiered works by William Jordan on the University of Calgary
Celebrity Series, performed on the University of Alberta's Music at Convocation Hall Series, the Edmonton Chamber Music Series & the CBC's Alberta in Concert Series,
and their concerts have been recorded for provincial and national broadcast on CBC Radio Two. They have two recordings: Christmastide and Contemplations.
Previous engagements include VoiceScapes as soloists in Purcell's King Arthur with the
Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra under Ivars Taurins, a Christmas program of Bach and Charpentier with the Red Deer Symphony, and
Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 with the Spiritus Chamber Choir and San Francisco's Whole Noyse. Over the last five seasons VoiceScapes has mounted
four critically acclaimed opera in concert productions: Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Handel's Acis and Galatea, Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona and Purcell's Tempest.
Highlights of recent seasons have been our Praetorius: Christmas Vespers and Bach's monumental B Minor Mass - both sell-out productions that garnered critical acclaim.
We look forward to sharing another season of glorious music with you!
